Samahita Retreat - Newsletter Summer 2010
Dear Friends,
For Your Life This Day
"I promise not to hurt you!" Is this a promise you are willing to at least try to implement in your life with loved ones, coworkers and then all beings? Ahimsa is the foundation of classical yoga, meaning non-violence or simply not hurting. It is also the first precept in the Buddhist approach. How can I work on this and fit it into my life? How does it affect practice and my development? Read more >>
Thailand - Calm and Steady
Thailand did make the news a lot in May and we read it everyday. Of course being here we were aware how the media can focus a lot on one subject and amplify its feeling. We remain apolitical on the events but do condone the unfortunate conclusion which led a small handful of people, criminals really, to cause arson, loss of life and damage. Unfortunately it is the average Thai citizen that has suffered. The government were tolerant and aiming for a peaceful solution but I think now they see who the rogue demonstrators are and a have a hold on it for the future. Interestingly, outside of the protest area in Bangkok was normal daily life and there was zero impact or anything felt on Ko Samui. The Thais are such a good people and are embarrassed by this event that caught the international spotlight. We are happy to say that things here are as they have been before, nothing to worry about. Our family are happy here and feel very safe. And it has been our mission all these years to share this with everyone else.
